The fight between Gojo Satoru and Toji Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the best-animated battles in recent anime history. It delivers breathtaking choreography, intense emotion, and a turning point for both characters. Here’s a detailed review:

Fight Scenes & Animation

The fight is animated by MAPPA, and they go all out with dynamic camera work, fluid motion, and bone-crushing impact. Toji’s sheer speed and brutal efficiency contrast perfectly with Gojo’s initially overconfident fighting style. The first half of the fight shows Toji overwhelming Gojo with his Heavenly Restriction-enhanced strength, expertly weaving in and out of Gojo’s attacks before delivering the devastating stab through the throat.

The second half, where Gojo activates Reverse Cursed Technique and returns with Limitless, is where the spectacle reaches another level. The Hollow Purple blast is a moment of pure hype, with the animation team emphasizing the power difference once Gojo fully taps into his potential.

Pacing & Narrative Impact

The pacing is fast but well-structured, making every exchange feel crucial. The first fight is quick and brutal, reinforcing Toji’s reputation as the “Sorcerer Killer.” Then, Gojo’s revival scene builds suspense before the final showdown, where he completely turns the tables. The transitions between fights are seamless, allowing the narrative stakes to rise without feeling rushed.

Strengths

1. Choreography & Weight – Every hit feels impactful, especially Toji’s brutal melee combat.

2. Emotional Stakes – Gojo’s defeat and comeback highlight his growth and transformation into the powerhouse we know later in the series.

3. Cinematography – The fight sequences use unique camera angles, slow-motion shots, and shifting perspectives, immersing the audience in the intensity.

4. Sound Design & OST – The sound effects make every hit land hard, and the background score enhances the fight’s weight.

Room for Improvement

Some scenes could’ve been extended – Toji’s first attack against Gojo feels so quick that it almost undersells his dominance before Gojo recovers.

More emphasis on Gojo’s emotions – While his transformation is a pivotal moment, the anime could have spent more time on his mental shift from reckless youth to an almost godlike sorcerer.

Conclusion

The Gojo vs. Toji fight is one of the best in anime history, combining brutal action, top-tier animation, and narrative weight. It perfectly adapts the manga’s intensity and sets the stage for Gojo’s rise to power. While a few moments could have been fleshed out more, the fight delivers a near-perfect balance of hype and storytelling.

Final Score: 9.5/10 – A visually stunning and emotionally significant battle that elevates Jujutsu Kaisen to another level.
