I'm not sure why they gave us this show but they did so here we are, this is basically a spinoff show off a spin off show. In all honesty, I was never interested in Agatha’s character so I didn’t understand why she was getting her own show but the MCU continues to struggle so I guess shows like this are inevitable.
It starts off kind of similar to WandaVision (probably for the viewers to feel comfortable and know what to expect). But by the end of episode 1, all of that is shifted to one side and they let you know it’s gonna be a bit different this time.
It then goes down the comedy/horror route which I guess is ok, but I only watched because I thought they were going to teach me more about Agatha's character. I did learn a tad about her character but the origin story didn’t really entice me so I lost interest all over again.
For 8 episodes the pacing is actually quite good. My favourite concept within this show would’ve been the continuity of the character ‘Lilia’. How they portrayed her in the second episode and showed her POV later in the episode was brilliant and was really fun to watch! It made you feel like the previous episodes were not a waste, this also explained her character’s abilities, struggles and allowed us to connect with the character more.
I did NOT enjoy the singing within the show, I felt it was leaning too much towards a musical and us Marvel fans didn’t sign up for that. We didn't even sign up for this series so please don’t make it worse.
The plot twist at the end is also really good for the storyline. Basically, Billy is just like his mother (Wanda) and essentially created the witch's road the same way Wanda took over the small town called West View.
The ending with Billy and Agatha heading out to embark on a different journey only opens more doors for the MCU to plant them anywhere they like, so I'm sure we will be seeing more of this team-up. Maybe there’ll be a season two? Or maybe we'll see them in a big blockbuster MCU film? Who knows? At least they have been given an origin and a quest for now.
Personally, I'm going to give Agatha about 6/10. This show wasn't really needed but they had some really good concepts and the storytelling was good. The whole show doesn't make that much of a difference to the MCU as a whole, whereas a show like Loki for example has a big impact on the whole MCU which is what the fans want to see. I feel like all Marvel fans think like this when a new series comes out from the MCU - “How does this show impact the upcoming Marvel movies? Because that's the only reason I'm here. If it doesn't have an impact, then it’s no good to us."
Sorry MCU, I believe you can do better.
